iPhone 8, 8 Plus, and X Announced in Apple’s Biggest Event of This Year

Ten years ago when Steve Jobs introduced the new Apple iPhone, the world came to a halt. The iPhone was the first smartphone that had access to the internet, and also had a full touchscreen, which was a mere idea at that time. iPhone was built focussing in the user experience and it was a real game changer that pushed us into the future of smartphones.

A decade after unveiling the first iPhone, Apple had a special event organized on September 12th, 2017 to celebrate the completion of 10 successful years. The event organized in the newly built Steve Jobs Theater as a tribute to the creator of iPhone was filled with many new announcements, launches, and innovations.

The event saw the launch of much awaited and extensively leaked iPhone 8, 8 Plus, and the special edition iPhone X to mark its 10th anniversary. Apart from the iPhone, there were other launches and announcements as well. Here is a list of all the new launches and announcements made by Apple in the event held on Tuesday.

WatchOS 4

The first thing that Apple announced in the event was a new Operating System for its smartwatches knows as the WatchOS 4. This new Apple Watch update will come with new watch faces, including a smart Siri face which will be powered by a user’s routines and preferences. The OS also includes a new and revamped Music app and an Apple Pay app to make your payments easy.  WatchOS 4 will be available for Apple Watch from September 19th.

Apple Watch Series 3

The previous version of the Apple Watch needed to connect to an iPhone or an iPad to perform their functions, but the new Apple Watch Series 3 comes with LTE capabilities. This means that the watch will now support SIM cards directly and users will have the option to use the watch without connecting it to an iPhone or iPad. The new Apple Watch comes with a new dual core processor that makes the watch much faster than its predecessors. It sports a new W2 wireless chip that increases the Wi-Fi performance. The new Apple Watch will also now start giving out notifications for abnormal high heart rates allowing the users to take care of their health.

Apple TV with 4K support

Apple launched a new Apple TV device with support for 4K, Dolby Vision, and HDR10. The device will not only play 4K content but will also convert the 1080P content into 4K. This means that all your HD content will be converted into 4K resolution at no additional cost. Apple also announced that iTunes will now have native 4K content that could be played through the Apple TV. These all will be possible with the A10X Fusion chips that are included in the new version of Apple TV.

iPhone 8 and 8 Plus

This was perhaps the most hyped and anticipated launch by the tech giant. The new iPhones, named as 8 and 8 Plus are the successors for the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus models and they come with a full generational update.  Apple’s new iPhones come with new materials, design, graphics, CPU, ISP, camera, speakers, and charging, which basically means that everything has changed. The new iPhones are more durable and stronger than their predecessors, with the inclusion of aerospace aluminum and durable glass on the back.

The smartphone giant has also brought out a new SoC for its new phones called the A11 Bionic chip, which is expected to be the fastest mobile SoC available now. Apple has focused on different silicon improvements, which will ensure that the CPU performance during multitasking is smooth and the GPU battery life gets better.

Apple has also improved the camera subsystem for both its new phones. It has added a new sensor, pixel engine, and image signal processor for both the models. Unlike the the iPhone 7, the iPhone 8 now has optical image stabilization properties, which is a very major improvement. Apple has also claimed that the cameras in its new phones have the best 4K recording capabilities in terms of color reproduction and the effects. The iPhone 8 comes with a single 12-megapixel shooter, while the 8 Plus comes with a dual-camera setup with two 12-megapixel cameras.

Another important feature that’s added to the new iPhones have improved compatibility with augumented reality, thanks to its ARKit. Also the new iPhones come with the support for wireless charging, which was missing from all the previous devices made by Apple.

iPhone X

This can be considered as an engineering marvel, especially when it’s compared to the other Apple smartphones. The Apple iPhone X is a special edition smartphone launched to mark the tech giant’s 10th anniversary. iPhone X has an infinity or an edge to edge display, which in itslef is a unique thing. The phone has a 5.8″ OLED Super Retina Display, which is not just beautiful but it supports Apple’s color accuracy and True Tone specifications as well.

When you look at the phone you’ll be surprised to find that there’s no home button on it. Yes! you read it right, iPhone X doesn’t come with a home button. So to close any app and go back to the main menu you need to swipe up from the bottom of the screen, which will take you to the main screen. With the home button, Apple has also ditched the fingerprint scanner and instead it has introduced a new feature called the Face ID. Face ID is basically a face recognition feature that lets the users unlock their phone by just looking at it.

The Face ID feature of the special edition smartphone creates a depth map of your face using neural networks and discrete silicon that it matches with the source. This ensures that the facial recognition cannot be spoofed by a photograph or any virtual images. Apple says that this facial recognition feature is 20 times more secure than the fingerprint scanner.

Like the iPhone 8 Plus the iPhone X comes with a dual camera setting at the rear for clicking great pictures with good focus as well. While in the front the phone has a 7-megapixel camera which is combined with an infrared camera and a dot projector that plays an important role in making the Face ID a success.

Like the other iPhones announced in the event, this special edition smartphone also comes with wireless charging capacities and has a great glass body which makes it look very beautiful.

Wrapping up

All in all, Apple had a great 10th-anniversary event and the new announcement and launches made the day even more interesting for the tech giant. The new iPhones 8, 8 Plus and the special edition iPhone X has created great interest among people.
