Android One Makes a Comeback With the New Xiaomi Mi A1

Almost after two years of hibernation, Google’s Android One is back in news again. The program which was launched with a lot of fanfare and excitement in 2014, to target the developing countries and fuel further growth in hardware and Android sales suddenly was stopped in early 2015. This was done because of the lack of compelling product offerings and great competition from other cheap Android device manufacturers.

Xiaomi Mi A1:  The renascence of Android One

Google and Xiaomi recently announced the resurrection of Android One by launching the new Xiaomi Mi A1 smartphone in India. The smartphone comes with a dual-camera setup and is priced at Rs 14,999 INR, which is about $233. This is the first Android phone which is placed in the category of mid-range priced phones since prior to this Android One was only focused on Low-end range phones. Google announced that Android One is not just about entry-level smartphones but it will be also available for a wide range of devices.

The Xiaomi Mi A1 is also the first phone of the manufacturer that runs on Android One. Apart from India, the phone will also be available in other countries, including Russia, Indonesia, Taiwan, Vietnam, and many others. It’s the first Xiaomi phone that has a dual-camera setup and running on Android One, the phone provides a stock android experience to the users.

Android One affiliation means that the phone will receive all the latest updates of Google almost at the same time when the Pixel and Nexus devices get it. The phone will be shipped with the latest Android Nougat and it will get regular monthly security updates and a guaranteed OS update when Google starts rolling out Android Oreo. The device is Google Play Protect certified and will provide the users a smooth and safe experience.

The Xiaomi A1 is a big phone that comes with a 5.5 inch full HD display. Unlike other Xiaomi phones, this doesn’t have the MIUI custom skin instead it runs on stock Android. However, the phone comes with some pre-loaded Xiaomi apps, like Mi Remote, Mi Home, and Feedback. Xiaomi A1 is powered by Snapdragon 625 Octa-core processor with 4GB RAM and a 64GB storage that could be expanded using a microSD card.

The phone comes with a dual-rear camera setup consisting of two 12 megapixel sensors with 2X optical zoom and 10X digital zoom. In the front it has a 5-megapixel shooter that lets you take great selfies. connectivity options of the phone include 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth, GPS, and WIFI. The Xiaomi A1 is powered by a 3080 mAH battery that would be enough to provide a day’s charge.
